On the subject then, of formal qualifications and ability to assess the quality of the craigavon iburst tower enviro process, neither jvz nor rudolph muller have a degree in enviro: i do. They both give the iburst craigavon mast process the thumbs up; i give it the thumbs down.

Regardless of who has a degree and who does not, the process as stipulated was not followed and the mast was simply erected from what I can gather. I can not see why we need all these lengthy discussions over it if the residents can simply get an interdict to have it removed.

Acutally, I have a very vague memory of a site where Vodascum wanted to put up a mast. I signed off the transmission line, after construction section installed it. They never terminated the line and eventually a year or two later I was asked to remove our equipment off the site. I then found out they got turned down for the proposed site and the mast never went up. That was a hell of a long time ago, so my memory might be a bit innacurate but something like that did happen.

Absolutely correct.

One would think it would be that simple. In theory it is that simple. But alas, in reality it takes a great deal more that just being lawfully right.

It is not so easy to get any development removed (cue starstreak). That said, I do think the craigavon residents are ultimately going to come out on top.

I can think of a few developments around cape town where the council Enviro people said nooit and the council just said 'noted' and carried on. It depends on how serious the infringement/affect is.

The residents can either approach the local provincial authority (gdace) or they can seek relief through the courts (first stop, the high court).

I favour craigavon's chances of success via the high court.

According to Kyocera's website, that 12-element array puts out a staggering 44.6dBm, that is 28.8 watts, which is quite a lot.

As for my labeled diagram, it is pretty much spot-on. I also found out that in some cases, like the site at Fourways hospital, the units on the pole are acting as straight power amplifiers, the work is done inside the little container which is air-conditioned.

However, in the case of the Craigavon site, and sites like Little Falls, where I live, all the work is being done in those boxes, and my deduction that the little dish is the peering link is also confirmed correct.

On your photo Debbie, the thin wires that look like LAN cables are indeed it Those transceivers have 100-Base-T network connections.

Kyocera does not release technical docs to the public. Give me time and I will see if I can get them from another source.

In my opinion, the entire Fourways setup is completely stupid. The site locations I deduced form an almost perfect rectangle. Can you imagine what kinds of problems will occur if you are smack bang in the middle of that rectangle, i.e. Cedar road and surrounds? I am willing to bet the subscribers there are all suffering from "basestation hop" and problems posting to forums like these, not to mention e-mail download difficulties.

Default iburst agree to turn off mast

Just a couple of details. Following a meeting between a small number of craigavon residents suffering health effects and the iburst ceo (and his lawyer), iburst has agreed to turn off the craigavon / fourways memorial iburst mast immediately, until such time as residents and iburst can meet again in a similar forum in a few weeks, and in order to provide a suitable amount of time for the alleged short-term health effects (rashes, persistent headaches, inability to sleep, etc) to subside/"dissipate".

Iburst has agreed to allowing an independent RF engineer (who will be selected by the residents) access to iburst records and/or equipment to verify that the tower is not transmitting nor receiving. Iburst has agreed to covering the costs of this.

to be cont.

Iburst have further agreed to pay for an independent RF engineer, to be selected by the residents, to test the radiation levels at a handful of locations that the residents will select, during a time that the tower is on.

The ceo of Iburst has agreed to produce an affidavit swearing the date that the tower was turned off, and swearing that the tower will not be switched back on without reasonable prior notice to residents.

Iburst has agreed to allowing yours truly to climb the fourways memorial tower, and "unscrew things".

tamago, you are thanked for your labelled drawings.
the artist formerly known as skeptik, as well as karl, you are personally invited to verify the tower is off.

I would like to thank jannie van zyl for being such an avid reader of bblounge, as well as for the tips on how to make bblounge better (the details of which i'll leave for another post, another day)
